Event Description

For Women’s History Month, Hertfordshire Archives & Local Studies will be hosting a screening of archive films from the East of England region which shed light on women’s growing independence in the decades that followed World War II.

We start with a young woman in the 1950s enjoying the freedoms afforded by owning a car, we move on to a film of the same era highlighting the pleasures of a day to oneself, then a 1960 TV report into women wearing trousers and finally a look at self-defence for women in 1975. This screening gives us a moment to reflect on how far we have come and how far we still have to go in terms of equality. Discussion and sharing of memories and lived experience warmly welcomed.

The event will take place at Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies, Register Office Block, Pegs Lane, Hertford, Hertfordshire, SG13 8EJ

The event is on the 28th of March and tickets cost £5.

The event starts at 1:00pm and will be 1 hour. There are currently 15 spaces available.
