Event Description
Don’t miss the latest in the series of Fort talks. The Royal Armouries museum at Fort Nelson will host this month’s Fort Talks on Wednesday 15 May with special guest speaker Keith Brigstock.
During the evening, Keith Brigstock will highlight the crucial role women have played in the British Army since 1914, the start of the First World War, to present day. As the entire nation mobilised for First World War, Keith will explain how women stepped up to line and continued to break boundaries during the Second World War as they took on increasingly diverse roles but were still prevented from fighting. The talk will focus on the changing roles of women in the Army, from small beginnings to essential service during this county’s darkest days.
Keith Brigstock, who was a gunner himself for over twenty years in the Royal Artillery and is still employed by the Ministry of Defence at Larkhill, is a keen military historian and speaks regularly on a range of First and Second World War subjects. He is a member of The Garrison Artillery Volunteers, a volunteer hobby group of historians whose passion is the Royal Artillery.
