About your tutor Karen Miele
Karen is an exceptionally talent abstract artist and printmaker. Two of her major interests are the spontaneity of mark making, and the many ways (whether natural or artificial ) by which textures and colours in our environment can mature and change. Choosing to work in series and layers so her work can evolve, adding an element of surprise to the finished product. This approach allows each piece to branch out and follow a unique path of its own – shaped by the techniques and treatments applied, yet still sharing common themes.
Combining printmaking and painting techniques with mixed media and found objects to explore and create a broad range of tones and textures. By placing hard edges alongside organic textures, she can manufacture sticking contrasts while maintaining balance. She enjoys working with the unpredictable patterns that form as each piece progresses. She takes inspiration from both her materials and surroundings. Having spent her childhood by the Cornish coast and Peak District both locations have informed her work for many years. Studying at De Montford University she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts, specialising in abstract painting and printmaking.
To ensure the quality of your personal experience, group size will be limited to 6.
