Friendly family run traditional B&B mixing modern with original Edwardian period features, in a good location complete with sea views – guest house accommodation at its best.

Where to find it

Swiss Cottage can be located at the northern end of Great Yarmouth seafront, just 20 miles from the city of Norwich and near to many wonderful Norfolk Broads villages. Great Yarmouth itself is classed as Norfolk’s premier seaside town and it is certainly the biggest with three beaches, the famous Golden Mile (Norfolk’s answer to Las Vegas – it even has its own casino) and the delightful Venetian style waterways gardens which can be accessed immediately over the road from Swiss Cottage. Beyond this you’ll find beautiful sand dunes and a sandy beach stretching for miles along the Norfolk Coast Path. With local resorts such as Hemsby and the Victorian Gorleston-on-Sea, there’s plenty of day out potential too for families, couples and retired guests.

What to expect

Owners Bob and Barbara have run Swiss Cottage since 2014 and continue to make yearly improvements to what is a fine Edwardian house dating back to 1902. Their desire to modernise was an ambitious aim but it is really beginning to reap its rewards. Nine guest rooms spanning over three floors are all unique in style and reflect the history of the home superbly. During these extensive renovations they discovered some fascinating facts about the Edwardian home too that Bob delights in sharing.

A piece of history…

Evidence of an original staircase used only by servants to reach their quarters without interrupting the grander parts of the house gives an intriguing glimpse into a Downton-esque world adding some depth to your stay. Dream of life 100 years ago here, as sipping your breakfast tea in the dining room overlooking the gardens and sea beyond. The history of the home has been brought alive through uncovering original fireplaces in three of the rooms which are immaculate despite their age. These features are complimented by the purchasing of some wonderful Edwardian wash basins too that provide a unique stay.
