Sculthorpe Moor Nature Reserve

0

Sculthorpe Moor Community Nature Reserve is a peaceful place, with a rich variety of wildlife in its carefully managed woodland, fen and reed bed habitats. Located in the beautiful Wensum Valley, the reserve is nationally and internationally recognised as important for its wildlife. Many scarce species thrive here such as water vole, barn owl, marsh harrier, white admiral butterflies and much more.

Created and managed by the Hawk and Owl Trust, the reserve provides everyone with a real opportunity to get involved with the natural environment. We particularly welcome families, wildlife watchers and educational groups, and it’s a great place to come if you want a gentle stroll.

Boardwalks make access easy for everyone and guide you through the reserve. The Sculthorpe team have a strong policy of ‘Access for All’ so those with wheelchairs, buggies and prams will be delighted to know that they really can access all areas – including the fabulous new aerial Walkway and Hide. Bird feeders and nest boxes are sited along the way and there are viewing platforms, places to sit and relax, and hides for watching the wildlife. The elevated Whitley Hide gives spectacular views over the fen and reed bed.

A successful application to the Heritage Lottery Fund and European Union ERDF enabled the Hawk and Owl Trust to provide the wonderful conservation, education and visitor facilities that now exist at the reserve. The reserve is open from 8am seven days a week and is only closed on Christmas Day!
