Love Grays, Grays High Street, 25 February 2017
By Jen Farrant
The Love Grays Festival, on Saturday 25 February launched a new initiative from Grays Town Management Partnership, organised in association with Metal, a local arts charity.
In the run up to the event children created postcards about Grays, featuring a poem, story, or picture. These were displayed at various points in the high street. On the day there was collage and art sessions, including Urdu calligraphy, for anyone to create a postcard and add to the display. People could also take part in rap sessions to proclaim what they loved about Grays!
Thurrock Arts Collective hosted ‘paint offs’ where two artists worked together on the same canvas, as well as open mic sessions in their beach hut. On the main stage were local performers including Golden Voices, Creative Blast, Grays Town Band, JB Rose and Quest Music Services.
The group Zumba class really got everyone moving first thing and later in the afternoon there was a chance to take part in some Bollywood dancing, which was wonderful to watch!
It was a delight to see so many people smiling and having fun on a rather cold February morning, intermingled with the market and local shops.
