Review of – The ‘Isle Singers’

By eventswhatson.com reviewer Rosemary Westwell

The ‘Isle Singers’, a small choir of ladies, sang to the patients in Aria Court Care Home in March Cambridgeshire last Thursday. Rosemary Westwell, leader of the choir, said: ‘It was wonderful to see the faces of the patients and their visitors light up when they obviously enjoyed the music. This little concert was even more special for me because my husband has been in this care home for over 10 years and sometimes it is very difficult to communicate with him, for he cannot speak – his eyes tell us how he feels. When we sang to him on Thursday he was obviously quite overcome with positive emotion and he and I were able to rekindle the bond that has been with us since we married.’

The choir then visited patients who were bed bound in their rooms and sang a few songs at their bedside. This, too, was much appreciated.

The choir has been singing for over 40 years and so many of the members are not as young as they used to be, in fact, one member has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s but she still enjoys taking part in the rehearsals and concerts.
