SPLURGE GUNS AT THE READY FOR THE MK STAGE EXPERIENCE PRODUCTION OF BUGSY MALONE

Splurge guns, gangsters, glamourous girls, and dreams of Hollywood – family classic Bugsy Malone will be brought to life by local talent at Milton Keynes Theatre, Friday 4 & Saturday 5 August.

Selected through open auditions in the Spring, this unique project will see over 100 local youngsters aged 10 – 21, led by a group of industry professionals to produce three live shows on Milton Keynes Theatre’s stage.

The leading roles will be played by youngsters from across the region, with Jamie Williams from Bedford starring as Bugsy Malone, Natasha Holland from Milton Keynes as Tallulah, Hampshire’s Amy Hales as Blousey Brown, and speakeasy Fat Sam being played by Milton Keynes’ Nathaniel Thomas.

Produced by MKT’s Creative Learning Department, Bugsy Malone will be the sixth critically acclaimed youth production – previous titles include West Side Story (2011), Guys and Dolls (2012), Footloose (2013), The Wiz (2014) and Fame (2016).

The production is led by industry professionals including Director Robert Marsden, Choreographer Bethany Hague and local Musical Director Matthew Reeve. High quality set design and a live orchestra, make Stage Experience an unforgettable project for all participants.

Producer of Stage Experience and Creative Learning Manager, Kelley Evans says, “This year sees the 6th Stage Experience production come to Milton Keynes Theatre and it is the highlight of our year. We have, over the years, had the pleasure of working with over 600 talented youngsters and witnessed so many of our young performers develop and grow in confidence, with many of them returning to us year after year to continue their development; some moving onto the world’s most prestigious Performing Arts schools and others currently working within the industry themselves.

This really is the most amazing opportunity for any young performer to live out their dreams in our beautiful theatre.”

Set in 1920s Prohibition America, this light-hearted, gangster musical sees penniless boxing promoter, Bugsy Malone, caught up in a mix of gangs, girls and dreams of Hollywood when he’s recruited to Fat Sam’s mob in the middle of a battle to acquire the latest weapon: immobilising custard pies.
