The Company of Wolves
The Company of Wolves
Based on the stories by Angela Carter
‘One beast and only one howls in the woods at night’
Are you looking for a unique theatrical experience? Then look no further than Burn The Curtain who will be performing – The Company of Wolves – at High Lodge Thetford this September. The show, based on the classic collection of stories written by author Angela Carter, has been adapted by Burn the Curtain in to a unique and exciting adventure for runners and walkers.
Angela Carter’s classic collection of stories includes ancient folklore and mythical tales known to us all. Many of these archetypal characters and stories, including ‘Red Riding Hood’, ‘Peter and the Wolf’ and ‘Wolf Alice’, were read to us in childhood as bedtime stories. Other characters such as, ‘The Werewolf’, came to us in later years as dark, foreboding characters that only emerge in the dark of night! In these tales of folklore and myth, the central character of Red Riding Hood, lives in a tiny village on the edge of dark and distant mountains. One night she puts on her red shoes and cloak, and heads into the forest alone, watched by unseen eyes. As the shadows lengthen, she begins to run… and the hunt begins.
This Autumn, join Burn the Curtain in their imaginative retelling of this dark and mysterious modern classic. Joe Hancock (Artistic Director) says, “instead of a tiny village on the edge of distant mountains, our Red Riding Hood will walk and run through your local landscape, where wolves may also hide at night!“
You can join Red Riding Hood at Thetford Forest, High Lodge from September 21st to 23rd and journey with her through the forest in the dark of night. The Company of Wolves has toured to other Forestry Commission venues and to both the Brighton Festival and Salisbury International Arts Festival. Wherever the show tours, performances sell out, so be sure to book your tickets now!
Burn The Curtain are well known for producing shows where the audience become part of the story and the action! In The Company of Wolves, audiences choose to be a hunter or a gatherer, fleet of foot or eagle eyed, to pick up the pace, or to tread carefully along the forest path. Depending on the path, the trail will be between 2 – 3 miles for walkers and 4 – 5 miles for runners. Come prepared for physical activity, either running or walking, with appropriate clothing and good footwear, and remember that some of the action will take place in the dark, so bring a torch or head torch. If you have questions email Red Riding Hood’s Granny – firstname.lastname@example.org.
And finally, remember stray from the path for one instant, and the wolves will eat you!
