Louise Cornwell, Managing Director at Longholes said:

“We are delighted to be sponsoring Frankie’s visits to Palace House over the summer holidays. The National Heritage Centre is a wonderful attraction for the local community and having the lovely Frankie there over the summer will be a great addition. NRT have been incredibly generous in offering to deliver Frankie to Palace House for his weekend visits and this really wouldn’t be possible without their support.”

As well as meeting the delightfully diminutive Frankie, visitors can look forward to a host of fun, family friendly activities this summer. Visitors can explore the King’s Yard with specially designed summer trails with fun exercises and tasks for the little ones to complete. The craft pod in the Rothschild Yard will be hosting crafty activities all summer long, where visitors can create their very own racing silks master piece and decorate your very own rosette which you will be able to take away with you.

Palace House has launched a “children-only” behind-the-scenes tour of the Rothschild Yard, which is home to a number of retired racehorses, and is the flagship yard for the Retraining of Racehorse (RoR) charity. Suitable for visitors aged 5 – 12, this exclusive tour will showcase how the RoR team care for the resident former racehorses and will give visitors the chance to get involved in preparing the food, mucking out, meeting the horses, and exploring the tack room, where all the bridles, saddles and training equipment is kept! The behind the scenes tours will run every Tuesday at 10.30am throughout the summer holidays, subject to availability.  The tour is included in the normal ticket price; visitors should register their interest in joining a tour on arrival at the main reception.

To make the most of the day out, families are encouraged to explore all the galleries in the museum, become a jockey for the day – don jockey silks and try out the racehorse simulator, and discover the art on display at Palace House, the former home for King Charles II. Don’t forget to visit the retired racehorses in the Rothschild Yard, and enjoy their live demonstrations that take place at 11.30am and 2.30pm every day.

If visitors get peckish whilst exploring the attraction, the on-site restaurant, The Tack Room will be there to serve delicious delights for all the family, including a delicious children’s menu featuring locally sourced and organic ingredients. The Pantry Bakery in the Kings Yard will also be creating picnics for families to sit and enjoy in the Rothschild Yard, surrounded by horses, whilst playing garden games!

There will be additional exiting activities taking place on select days throughout the summer, where Briony Jackson, the Assistant Curator of Science and Learning, will present previously unseen objects from the science collection, revealing ‘Secrets from the Store’. ‘Secrets from the Store’ is available to join in the Atrium of Palace House on the 1st, 15th and 29th August at 12.30pm and is included within the normal ticket price.
