Based in a landmark timber framed building in the heart of Norfolk, the Green Britain Centre’s mission is to inform, educate and empower people to help create a Green Britain through sustainable energy, transport and food together with making space for nature.
Created by Ecotricity, the world’s first green energy company, the centre offers a unique experience and some amazing exhibits and organic gardens. Open every weekday all year round, the centre hosts visitors and school parties, as well as a range of business events and conferences… with a twist.
Come and share our exciting vision for a Green Britain powered by the wind, the sun and the sea, where electric cars take us from A to B, and where we no longer rely on the meat industry to feed our families.
Visitors to the centre are invited to experience Wind Energy in a totally different way. Release your adventurous side and make the 300 step journey up the first modern windmill in the world open for the public to climb and enjoy the view from a platform designed by the famous architect Sir Norman Foster. The windmill generates enough electricity to power more than 750 homes every year. Over 150,000 people have already walked to the top and it’s certainly worth the trip as and the views of the surrounding countryside are breath-taking. Next to the windmill you’ll find a solar panel which tracks the sun as it crosses the sky, absorbing the sunshine that falls on it and converting it into renewable energy.
Complete your visit with a look at the electric transport of the future and enjoy excellent fair trade coffee and tasty vegetarian food at the café, some of which is grown in our own organic gardens.
Based just outside the centre of Swaffham by the A47.
