Event Description
Join us for Walk The Chalk Celebration Week: 5-day festival of FREE guided walks, talks, arts activities, and live music.
LYT Productions & Lewes District Council are proud to present Walk The Chalk, flagship celebration amongst 10 national events to mark the launch of The King Charles III England Coast Path.
5 days of special arts & heritage events at South Hill Barn, Seaford Head Nature Reserve, Cuckmere Haven & the Seven Sisters. Learn about local flora and fauna, chalk, fossils, geology, history, folklore and the impact of climate change, through guided walks, talks, art exhibitions and performance.
FREE bookable guided walks, led by trained volunteers. The 75-minute guided tours take visitors on a journey through the heritage and history of the Seven Sisters, viewing large-scale art installations marking the route of the path across the cliffs of Seaford Head and Hope Gap, and various performance elements.
Accessible tours in an all-terrain buggy last 45 minutes. Tours start from 4pm on Wednesday to Friday and from 1pm on Saturday and Sunday. The last tour of the day starts at 8pm. Pre-booking your free ticket is essential to ensure everyone has a good experience at Walk The Chalk.
Members of the public can enjoy a huge range of cultural experiences for FREE, including musical performances from headline bands The Copper Family, The Captain’s Beard, and Laura Ward and The Risen Road; local musicians performing specially composed music and sea-shanties; an early morning Chi Gong workshop; a Singing for Wellbeing participation event; The Living Coast Undersea Virtual Reality Experience; spoken performances combining the beauty of landscape and literature, by Alinah Azadeh, writer in residence at Seven Sisters Country Park and other creatives; and a walk at twilight to the site of the lost church of Exceat, with medieval choral music, led by visual artist Katy Beinart.
Walk The Chalk is a fully inclusive community event and is suitable for people of all ages. The guided walks and events will be accessible via public transport and walkable by people of all abilities.
