Three Choirs Concert Verdi: Requiem
Date(s) - 30/03/2019
7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
The Three Choirs Concert has been more than two years in the planning and promises to be a very special occasion. Verdi’s Requiem is widely enjoyed by audiences and performers alike, universally acknowledged as a masterpiece of the choral repertoire – some consider it the pinnacle of achievement of choral composition.
The work will be performed as part of a 30-year tradition among three of Harrow’s premier choirs, Harrow Choral Society, Harrow Philharmonic Choir and Stanmore Choral Society. Each choir enjoys a reputation for the high quality of their performances. Accompanied by a full orchestra, the ensemble features some 200 voices, enabling the Verdi Requiem to be performed in the style, and to the standard, that the composer intended. Watford Colosseumis one of the few venues in the Home Counties able to accommodate the size of choir, orchestra and audience anticipated for this event.
The Conductor will be Simon Williams who is Music Director of Harrow Choral Society and of the choir of St George’s Hanover Square.
The four soloists for the evening are of exceptional quality. In 2017, Anush Hovhannisyan (Soprano) represented her country in Cardiff Singer of the World and was a finalist in the 2018 International Opera Awards. Canadian born Trevor Bowes (bass) is internationally acclaimed not just for his voice but for his musical interpretation and delivery. Alexander James Edwards is one of the UK’s best-loved tenors and it is no exaggeration to say that Mezzo Soprano Sarah Pring is in constant international demand.
Accompanying the Three Choirs will be the Harrow-based and much-admired Trinity Orchestra, who will comprise more than 50 instruments – including the off-stage trumpets and, of course, the Verdi Bass Drum!
