Event Description

In this exhibition three Suffolk artists who live near to each other respond to their landscape and surroundings. The elements of air, earth and sea, the seasons and weather all play an important part in producing strikingly different paintings. Jane Lewis is an abstract painter using oil and watercolour. The landscape is her starting point for painting – walking through it everyday in all weathers, all seasons often taking the same path. Sam Hacking is presently working on a body of seascapes that are vivid, expressive and cathartic, seeking the point between the extremes of light and dark, movement and stillness, abstraction and realism.Lucy Scott creates using elements collected on rambles through the Suffolk countryside, brought back to the studio to be mixed, prepared and applied. Pigments are made from ochre and clay, inks from collected local flora. The paintings are complemented by the bold and beautiful ceramics of Simon Sharp who describes himself as a painter in clay. He uses traditional coloured slips to daub, flick and paint the pieces with subject matter both figurative and abstract.
