‘The Unknown Bird’
Date(s) - 14/10/2021
7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
The ‘Unknown Bird’ is the life, music and poetry of Ivor Gurney, one of the foremost composers of song in the first half of the last century; he is commemorated at Westminster Abbey as one of the sixteen greatest First World War poets. This play incorporates Gurney’s music and poetry as well as that of his contemporaries, including George Butterworth, Gerald Finzi and W B Yeats. It is the moving story of a genius whose mental health seemed both to inspire and conspire against him.
The ‘Unknown Bird’ is written by Bungay composer and musician William Drew-Batty, who plays Ivor; William Fergusson accompanies him on the piano and they are accompanied by three actors, Ben Elder, Polly Wright and Victoria Bacon.
There is no interval; the presentation is approximately 90 minutes.
