Event Description

Mid Suffolk Light Railway – Suffolk’s award winning only standard gauge

heritage railway – Summer 2019 includes visiting locomotive ‘Sirapite’ and a full programme of  additional attractions.

The Mid Suffolk Light Railway has four locos in residence throughout the season often featuring more than one loco in steam, including Sirapite, the Garretts of Leiston legendary works shunter for over 30 years. Sirapite will be frequently on show shunting and pulling demonstration goods trains.

With its unique atmosphere, the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway was the 2015 Suffolk Museum of the year and offers a fascinating picture of what life was like on and around a rural railway during the early part of the last century. The full ‘Middy’ experience with all parts of the Brockford Station site, including the museum itself, souvenir shop, cafe, model railway and real ale bar coach, The Kitchener Arms, are open when the trains are running. And once you have your ticket you can ride the line as many times as you like. Steam trains run throughout open days from 11.00 a.m. to approximately 4.00 p.m.

Also this season the railway will have frequent extra attractions (see website for details). As we get a bit better known we are becoming a venue for a number of the local vehicle clubs – usually vintage – which gives us something extra for visitors to see between train rides.
