Event Description

This year, summer nights will be brought alive with Shakespeare’s most famous story of love at first sight and his sparkling comedy of misunderstandings. Exploding onto the stage with passion and verve, Groundlings Theatre Company brings together a thrilling ensemble in classic dress to present the trials and tribulations of love.
Romeo and Juliet
“Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.”
What if your first true love was someone you’d been told to hate?
Ripped apart by the bitter divisions of their parents, two young people will risk everything to be together.
Shakespeare’s classic love story grips its audience with intense longing and passion. Marked by an irresistible desire for change, watch as our hero’s verge on a precipice. Will they be the next generation torn by apart historic quarrels or will they spark a revolution?

Much Ado About Nothing
“Let me be that I am
And seek not to alter me.”
Packed with intrigue, double crossing and plenty of laughter, Much Ado About Nothing still       remains one of Shakespeare’s finest comedies.
Following the turbulent romances between Hero and Claudio and Beatrice and Benedict.
While young lovers Claudio and Hero have their forthcoming nuptials threatened by the resentful scheming of a Prince, marriage seems out of the question for reluctant lovers Beatrice and Benedick in this witty comedy about the never ending search for perfect love.
An exploration of what loyalty, chivalry, and true love really mean asking audiences to challenge their own perceptions of relationships.
Groundlings Theatre Company are proud to return to their roots and present two Shakespeare classics. Playing in repertory, Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing will be presented in a replica model of The Rose Playhouse where Romeo & Juliet would have originally been performed in the 16th Century.
