Event Description

Animal Portrait for Beginners

Saturday 21st March 2020 | 9.45am – 1pm

Learn the art of capturing the unique likeness and character of an animal you love at this fantastic beginner’s workshop with the exceptionally talented artist Sarah Watson. The workshop is held in our comfortable, cosy heated barn, that offers inspiring views of the beautiful countryside of one of Nottinghamshire’s finest vineyards. You will spend 3 hours relaxing and enjoy learning a new skill, while Sarah guides you through step by step showing you how to apply soft pastels with expressively identifying marks to capture his or her unique character, by the end of the session; you will have ideally completed your piece.

All materials, tools and refreshments are included but you will need to bring a good A4 photo of what you would like to draw, further details below.

Outline of your time with us

9.40am  Arrival with refreshments

9.45am  Welcome and introduction to your tutor Sarah Watson

11.30am Pause for light refreshments and snack (Try some locally grown wine from the vineyard)

1.00pm  Home time with your work of art

Photo selection – Select a good, well detailed, evenly lit colour photograph or magazine cutting no smaller than A5 size, ideally  A4 of your favourite animal. Recommended a printout rather than an original photo.

About Sarah Watson BA (Hons)

Sarah Watson graduated from De Montfort University in 1994 with a First Class Degree in Combined Arts & Humanities, studying Fine Art, History of Art and Media Studies. She continued to paint large scale commissioned abstract paintings and portraits, during a 15 year career in the music industry. In 2009 she returned to her Rutland and Lincolnshire roots to concentrate on her painting which focuses mostly on semi-abstract landscapes in pastels, oils and acrylics, drawing inspiration from the glorious countryside around her. A more commercial leg to her artistic portfolio is Wonky Dogs, her ‘expressive animal portraits for the stylish animal lover.’ Sarah has exhibited her work widely, with solo shows in the Lake District and at the Guildhall Arts Centre in Grantham in 2015.

To ensure the quality of your personal experience, group size will be limited to 8.
