Event Description

This year’s May Bank Holiday weekend, 4 – 6 May, will be one to remember as the Museum presents ‘From UXBs to IEDs’, an event focussing on the past and present bomb disposal and mine clearance work of the Royal Engineers.

Visitors can follow the trail to explore how the Royal Engineers became the Army’s bomb disposal experts and see the Museum’s Mk7 Wheelbarrow robot up close. There will even be opportunities to speak to the Sappers who carried out this dangerous but vital work and test out your own mine detecting skills using military search kit!

Plus author Susan Hudson will be speaking about the work of Royal Engineer Bomb Disposal units in the Second World War; her father’s experiences in a unit during the Blitz and in Malta first inspired her to write ‘UXB Malta: The Most Bombed Place on Earth’ .

The Museum is open from 10am until 5pm, with activities running from 11am – 4pm.

This event is included in standard admission prices.
