Event Description

Enamelling Workshop

Join us at our fabulous beginners enamelling workshop. What better way to spend a day than learning a new craft & making something handmade, all in the beautiful surroundings of Nottinghamshire’s finest vineyards, Hanwell Wine Estate.

You can make something beautiful for your home or as a gift for a friend or family member, a personal gift handcrafted by you.

Our talented tutor, Katie, will guide you through the process step by step and introduce you to enamelling on copper. Following demonstrations you will learn how to prepare the material, remove fire scale*, apply the enamel powders and work with glass chips, beads, roods and millefiori. When you have finished you will have created two pieces, these may include enamelled pendants, a pair of earrings or plaques. All ready to wear and show off the very same day.

All materials will be provided for you and your day includes a two-course homemade lunch served with a glass of local wine.

For safety we will only be using unleaded powdered enamels.

*Technical key word: Fire Scale – During the firing process bare copper is covered in ‘Fire Scale’ and ‘Fire Stain’, this is produced when the copper comes in contact with the heat and oxygen creating Cupric Oxide.

Feedback from her previous workshops –

“I’ve done two courses with Katie now and she’s amazing, really patient, encouraging, and great teacher . She’s always ready to adapt to help you try ideas and it’s a real fun day that made me want to run out and buy a kiln.” Sheila

“Attended one of Katie’s courses today and it was fantastic! I have never done this before and found it both therapeutic and satisfying. I can definitely recommend this course; Katie is a great teacher and we got a lot done. Will be doing more!” Liz

Based in Nottinghamshire Katie is an experienced enamel artist and business owner. Over the last 12 years she has honed her skills producing unique and bespoke work for many clients and galleries. Enamelling is an ancient craft, and once she mastered the techniques she used more experimental methods to establish her own area of enamelling. Now a specialist in turning any sketched idea into a piece of enamel work, Katie’s customers know that anything is possible, if she can draw it she can enamel it!

In recent years she has found great pleasure in sharing her experience and teaching this versatile and addictive craft.

To ensure the quality of your personal experience, group size will be limited to 8.
