Event Description

Abbots Ripton Hall Garden Show takes place this summer when Lord and Lady De Ramsey kindly open their stunning private gardens for this very special event in aid of local charities. The open gardens are also accompanied by trade stalls, plant sales, food stands and entertainment.

The Hall gardens are set over an area of 8.5 acres with managed parkland and a 10 acre lake. All areas are open to the public during the garden show. They comprise of many fine and ancient trees, extensive lawns, an old-style rose circle, double herbaceous borders and a bog garden. There are many follies, designed by Peter Foster, dotted around the garden including a gothic trellis and the Constable pavilion at the end of the lake.

Besides viewing and leisurely enjoying the gardens, the extensive programme includes demonstrations by professional gardeners, private garden tours, a Saturday Night Party in the marquee, a locally-sourced food fayre, a show of traditional farm machinery, a popular children’s container competition and a silent auction.  Additional entertainment will be provided from local groups such as the Ramsey 1940’s museum, the Cambridgeshire Garden’s Trust, the Huntingdon Beekeeper’s association and the TAG community Gardening Project plus many family-friendly events such as the GoFeral Obstacle course race.

This year sees Lord De Ramsey’s eldest son Freddie Fellowes with his wife Joanna Fellowes and the creative team behind the much-loved award-winning Secret Garden Party come on board, implementing their flair and skills to re-generate the garden show model and create an event that is inclusive across all the generations.  It promises to be a fascinating re-imagining of the traditional and the innovative. Think garden show with an added playful festival twist.
