A YEAR TO REFLECT
Date(s) - 09/08/2018 - 16/09/2018
10:00 am - 5:00 pm
The Gallery at Parndon Mill
East of England,
This exhibition is of work by Anthony Lysycia completed during a creative gap year in rural France. Expecting to paint a series of landscapes, he was surprised to find himself working on a selection of old floorboards. He also discovered a nearby quarry with beautiful French limestone to carve. The boards have become polychromed wood sculpture, displayed in this exhibition, as well as oil paintings and stone carvings. Besides the pieces in The Gallery, sculptures will be sited outside with a group in the river.
Anthony Lysycia has been described by Michael Rothenstein as an artist of unusual power, immensely energetic and full of innovation. He is becoming increasingly well known and has completed numerous private and public commissions. Working in stone and wood he has produced highly successful sculptures for clients such as British Waterways, the Welsh Tourist Board, local authorities and schools nationwide. A recent commission was for The River Stort Sculpture Trail. His stone carving The Flowing River is sited at Harlow Mill lock.
Tuesday – Friday 10 am – 5 pm, Sunday 2 – 4 pm
