Cow Tower, Norwich

Cow Tower, built in 1398-9 to control a strategic point in Norwich’s city defences, is one of the earliest purpose-built artillery blockhouses in England. Its height of almost 50 feet meant it overlooked the high ground on the opposite bank of the river Wensum.
