Cambridge Rock Festival is an annual four-day event run by volunteer music fans for music fans, with a great friendly, non-corporate vibe! . We attract many of the best names in classic rock, prog and blues and many bands have told us that our enthusiastic volunteers provide one of the best run and friendliest festivals they play; indeed you’ll often find them wandering around watching and listening to the music with everyone else.

2019 sees our 15th event annual, with nearly 70 bands appearing under three fully covered stages, within large weatherproof marquees set outdoors in the grounds of Haggis Farm Polo Club, just yards from junction 12 of the M11.

2019 also sees the 50th Anniversary of the first Cambridge Rock Festival!!! Held on Midsummer Common , Cambridge from June 8th – 11th 1969 ,the free 4 day event , probably also the first free music festival held in the U.K.( earlier events only ran for 1 day) featured many of the leading artists of the Counter Culture/Underground music scene including such names as Family , King Crimson , Roy Harper , D.J. John Peel and, towards the bottom of the bill , David Bowie!!

While this years event is no longer free, it still represents great value for money and tries to stay true to the spirit and ethos of those times by avoiding Corporate Sponsorship and the impersonal atmosphere of too many music festivals and by putting the Music first and by cultivating a friendly relaxed atmosphere. We are planning on hosting an exhibition to commemorate this 50th Anniversary at this years event.

Among this years headliners are Deep Purples Don Airey, melodic rockers FM and Cats in Space , prog pioneers Caravan , hard-rock legends Atomic Rooster , Franck Carducci , blues stars Ben Poole and Chris Bevington , soul review Jackie Wilson Says and the unique talents of John Otway plus tribute acts to the like of Pink Floyd ,Yes and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Indeed Yes are celebrating their 50th Anniversary in 2019 which we will be marking with Seyes’s headline performance on Friday 26th . .

Also this year we have not one but two artists playing that can be credited with having won the Eurovision Song Contest for the UK ….. “Love Shine A Light”, (performed by Katrina and the Waves) was written by Kimberley Rew (playing Emerald stage on Friday) and was conducted by Don Airey (playing Ruby stage on Thursday).

The four-day rock fest offers the full festival experience complete with camping and caravaning, great food and over seventy real ales, ciders and wines (other drinks are available!), plus on-site camping with parking by your tent. It is worth stressing that many people do not camp but instead attend on a daily basis. This year the intention is for the CRF bar and merchandise to go cashless, using debit and credit cards, whilst keeping our token system for drinks to help keep things simple for all our volunteers and festival goers. Cash will be welcomed by our traders and charity stalls as usual. There will be a wide choice of Food available as well as a variety of stalls selling vinyl LPs, clothing, posters etc.

Also this year will be a free post-music astronomy night, planned for Saturday after 11pm.This will depend upon the weather but will include a free expert lecture ‘Aurora – When Where and Why’ and/or the chance to see what’s up in the skies through various telescopes available on site. The event has been short-listed for best medium sized UK festival and all the proceeds from ticket and drink sales go to help fund the event rather than pay the organisers.

The CRF has always been involved with the local community, with a fundraising collection for local charities each day of the festival. Come for a day or come for the whole weekend – a relaxed friendly time will be had by all!
