Corn Exchange announces the Cambridge Orchestral Concert Series 2018/19 featuring dazzling performers and seven major orchestral concerts

A star-studded line-up has just been confirmed as Cambridge Live announces details of its 29th orchestral series. Opening in stunning style in October with the sweeping drama of an all-Russian programme, featuring Rachmaninov, Shostakovich and Khachaturian, the Russian State Symphony Orchestra will be a certain sell-out.

One of the country’s best-loved orchestras, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra continues as the venue’s Resident Orchestra, performing three of the seven

concerts. They bring with them two shining stars from the orchestral firmament – in November Mariam Batsasvili, the first female in history to win the prestigious International Franz Liszt Piano Competition – and, in an unmissable season highlight, legendary conductor Pinchas Zukerman joins the orchestra in March.  Russian music bookends the series with the Russian Philharmonic of Novosibirskk performing the series finale concert on 21 May 2019.  The award-winning Philharmonia Orchestra returns on 1 February 2019 with the dazzling young Spanish violinist Leticia Moreno and on 25 April 2019 the European Union Chamber Orchestra makes its first post-Brexit Corn Exchange appearance with the extraordinarily talented harpist Catrin Finch.

Robert Sanderson, Interim Managing Director of Cambridge Live, said:

‘I’m delighted with the quality and range of the orchestras, conductors and soloists we have been able to programme in the 2018/18 Cambridge Orchestral Concert Series.  It is a testament to the support of our audiences and sponsors, and indeed to the strength of our relationships with the orchestras themselves, that we are once more able to attract such world-class talent to Cambridge.’

The series is sponsored by Boldfield Computing whose Managing Director, Andy Irvine commented:

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to renew and extend our partnership with Cambridge Live. It is a privilege to be a primary sponsor. We admire and respect the work that Cambridge Live does in bringing a broad range arts programme to Cambridge and we are delighted that our on-going support of the Orchestral Series allows the organisation to continue to attract world class artists to Cambridge and, to support the RPO residency.   We will continue to help the programme promote classical music to schools and the young in Cambridge.  The diversity of classical artists performing over the series is impressive and I hope that you enjoy the experience as much as we shall in the coming season.”

Tickets are now on sale for people booking all seven concerts.  Savings of up to £98 can be made by taking out a full series subscription.  Tickets for individual concerts (and Multibuy savings for three, four or five concerts) go on sale on Friday 13 July 2018.
