Bure Valley Railway

The Bure Valley Railway is Norfolk’s longest narrow gauge steam railway and operates between the old market town of Aylsham and bustling Broads town of Wroxham.

It was built on the track bed of part of the former Great Eastern Railway and the nine mile line runs through the picturesque Bure Valley countryside, following the river Bure through meadowland and ancient pastures, stopping occasionally at small country villages. A foot and cycle path also runs alongside the track, giving the option of walking or cycling in one direction and catching the train back! Journey time is 45 minutes each way.
Trains operate on a daily basis from Easter to the end of October with special events throughout the year, including Santa and Mince Pie Specials. The railway also offers a very popular boat train which gives the opportunity for a journey by steam followed by a cruise on the Norfolk Broads. For those who would like to realise their childhood ambitions to be a train driver, Steam Driver Experience Courses are available during off-peak periods.

Aylsham Station is open 7 days a week (except Christmas Day and Boxing Day). You can visit the workshop, a large souvenir and model railway shop and the Whistlestop Café, which provides everything from a cup of tea to a full meal. At Wroxham Station there is a gift shop and a large second-hand book shop run by the Friends of the Bure Valley Railway. There is ample free car and coach parking at both stations with fully equipped facilities for the disabled. Dogs welcome.
