Aqua Park Experience
Ride Leisure, Wyboston Lakes
We visited in October to take in the Aqua Park itself and after the scorching months we enjoyed last summer it was inevitable things would have cooled off considerably when we visited this established aqua park at the season’s end.
First, however, this is only one of some 20 Gift Experiences that Ride offer and these include Jetlev Twin Seat Flight Experience, Weekday Jetlev Solo Flight Experience and 160 foot Bungee Jump Experience. Also available is a Paddle Board for One (and Two) Experience and Jet Boat Experience (on a Scarab Jet Boat).
Today however was the Aqua Park and this was accessed via a jetty so once we had been sized for and changed into wetsuits and buoyancy aids we were ready to enter the water and simply front-crawl it out to the platforms. I was there with Pippa, 11, and Aoife, also 11, and the girls bravely negotiated the various pyramid shaped and octagon shaped facilities including slides, a free-floating pneumatic see-saw and even a volley ball court. A group of lads in the 11-14 range had headed out in front of us.
The walkways between the features were ‘fun’ to negotiate as you had to keep your stability as corner sections etc would sink down into the water if you didn’t use speed and balance. A clever system of hand grips and foot-wells (that would be familiar to bouldering climbers, for example) was okay to negotiate once you got the hang of it.
And if you kept your balance, you were literally ‘walking on water’!
Staff were friendly and helpful and one of them patrolled on a motor dinghy with grab rails and we were spared the swim back to shore on this occasion but it would be a short and pleasant splash in summer months. So there it was and while we truly don’t want to go on about the cold, Pippa and her friend had seen enough to know how much they’d like to return next summer and enjoy the facilities of the Ride Aqua Park, and I’m sure we shall.
Around us was the evidence of the many other water based sports on offer including wake boarding, water skiing, Jetlev, Paddle Board and the venue itself can be booked for weddings and other functions. Clearly Ride have established experience running and coordinating these activities.
The Aqua Park is situated at Wyboston Lakes just off the A1 on the Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire border and easy to find.
This gift experience and the many others on offer at Ride are a great Christmas present for those with a taste for adventure.
