A day for Norfolk

IT sometimes seems like everything has to be celebrated with its own day. Well now Norfolk’s got one – a Norfolk Day, that is.

The powers that be have decreed Friday 27 July should be the East of England’s day of ‘fun, laughter and a day to show how proud you are to live in Norfolk’. Or presumably, like this writer, and like so many others including celebrities from Delia Smith to the former F1 racing driver and TV sports commentator Martin Brundle (born in King’s Lynn in 1959), to celebrate you were born in Norfolk.

Individuals and organisations are being encouraged to ‘show their pride and passion for Norfolk’.

Tweeting @norfolk_day you can ‘find out how you can get involved’. A Norfolk Day flag is posted at #NorfolkDay sponsored by Eastern Daily Press and BBC Radio Norfolk.

The Very Rev Jane Hedges, Dean of Norwich Cathedral joined the enthusiasm saying whatever your interests and passions: ‘it gives us a chance to reflect on how fortunate we are to be living here.’

And anyone who likes merchandise (or looking to entertain the kids) can apply to lay hands on starter packs including flags, posters and balloons that are being prepared. Branded t-shirts will also be available!

So come on, put 27 July 2018 in your diary and celebrate Norfolk and the people who live there!
